All week long, we teachers have been spoiled rotten with gifts for teacher appreciation week. Today was our day to "pay back" the volunteers who have helped keep our school running smoothly so we could do our jobs. And what does one teacher bring to school to help "feed" the volunteers? One lousy half-eaten bag of generic potato chips. Unreal.

I could never ever be a school teacher .. I think what you guys do is amazing and you are what makes kids grow up to be ‘engineers, professors, accountants, chemists, biologists, attorneys and doctors . I would never ever have the patience for that !

Among all the engineers, professors, accountants, chemists, biologists, I feel kind of embarrassed to admit that I'm just an elementary school teacher.

I had posted earlier about teachers where I work earning $75 to $100k a year for 4 hours of teaching. Look into some of the school districts run in prisons. Easy money. I wish the teachers in my kids' schools made that much to teach people who would one day contribute to society, rather than useless felons. BTW I work in the prison, too. But I make nowhere near what these folks do.

I enjoy going commando while at work. It's a very freeing feeling. Also, it's because I'm a Catholic school teacher with a very well-hidden naughty side.

I'm a teacher. I make $40,200 and this is my 16th year. I don't qualify for health benefits because my husband's job offers health insurance (that he pays approx. $500 per month for). I work at school from 7am until 4pm and I have an 18 minute lunch and a 35 minute plan bell each day. I usually work for another couple of hours at home several nights a week. Where is this 4 hours of work making &75-&110K per year? Hook me the hell up!

So it's the end of the school year, and all the 'concerned parents' are suddenly crawling out of the woodwork. I'm sorry, Mrs. Parent, but you think you could've shown a little concern sometime in the previous 8 weeks of the quarter? And just as a hint, if your son is failing miserably in 4 of his 6 classes (PE and study hall don't count) I think that is saying more about your son than the teachers, so please stop trying to make us look like the bad guys.

I work for a state agency that runs a school district of its own. The teachers teach for 3-1/2 to 4 hours a day (though they are there for 7 hours). Most of them make $75k to $110k a year. I wish I'd become a teacher!

Every day I think about walking out. I have two masters in my field and countless of other credits and hours in related courses. I feel like I will one day look back and feel like I wasted my life. I am a teacher in NYC

I don't understand teenagers. I'm a high school biology teacher and so I'm around stereotypical beauty, etc., all day long. There is this one particular girl that is super nice, really smart and tries so hard, and is also incredibly beautiful, but doesn't have many friends and is sometimes picked on by a group of girls who aren't really "popular," but think they are wonderful and are just mean. Years ago, I saw one of those girls' dates walk up to her and start talking and dancing with her, so maybe that's why she is so unnecessarily hated by that group. She was crying today over them.
