Applications to work at the summer camp come out in three days. I'm itching to apply and go back, but I have school to think of. I wonder if school would take a leave of absence? I want to feel like I'm making a difference again.

what is the deal with summer camps for very young children of stay at home moms? You really feel right just shipping off your 5 year old for a few weeks over night with strangers and springing a few thousand dollars for it? Why can't they just stay home and play outside and have some time with mom????

I wanted to have kids so much. We have a wonderful family. My husband works hard so I can stay at home and just do light part-time work. But the truth is that staying with the kids all the time is so frickin' exhausting, some days i can't wait until they are old enough for me to ship them off to summer camp.

My DD's last day of summer camp every kid got to either perform in a group or solo at something they liked doing. Dancing, singing ...a 8 yo girl sang "if I die young..." and only myself and a grandmom thought how grossly inappropriate that song was for this kid and this occasion. What's worse, they practiced the weeks before the event that and my DD (5) learned the words of that girl's song and was singing it in the car on our way home for days and I didn't see the connection until that day.

i was just reading up about sleepaway summer camps. I dont understand how someone could send their child away with strangers for 8 weeks and only see them once the entire time. seriously, am i missing something? are these the same parents that send their children to boarding school?

I wish people would stop looking at me like I have 3 heads when I say 1 kid is enough for me. No, I won't change my mind later and having an only child is not a form of child abuse. I'd rather have 1 kid we can afford to send to summer camp every year and take on family vacations than have 2 kids that sit around the house all summer and constantly get told they can't do things because mom and dad can't afford it.

Sil married the 1st cousin of a famous actor. He is married to a c level acctress. We are all in our 40's now, he was HUGE in '80's. By coincidence our daughters are same age, we drop off at same summer camp. My dd was talking to their dd getting along well. The parents dont know who i am. I said to her, our daughters are related, etc. She just gave me a tight lipped hmmm grabbed her girl and left. Im not a star fucker, just making conversation. I dont want your autogtaph. Tried to take a pic of dd camp friends and she made a big deal of moving FAR away from my camera. Wtf? We are moms.

coming to work at this summer camp has been extremely hard and extremely rewarding all at once. I'm so glad I made the choice to come. I think I'm making some decisions on what to do with life, and the summer is only half over!

This afternoon I picked our 6 year old twin boys up from summer camp. Upon getting home the boys wash up and head out to the back deck for an afternoon snack while I take their backpacks into the mudroom to empty. I empty the first backpack to find soggy clothes, a half eaten granola bar, and lots of dirt. I stick my hand into the second one and feel something squishy and damp. I pull my hand out and scream when I see a frog. DS yells, "it's ok mommy he doesn't bite". Good news! My heart still works!

I was raised by older relatives (parents died), and my "mom" never taught me anything. When I got my period, she bought me one of those old-fashioned belt-and-pad things. I learned how to use tampons at summer camp. I taught myself to shave, bought myself deodorant when I needed it, purchased my own pantyhose, bras and high heels. Taught myself how to tweeze my brows, do my makeup and took myself to get contacts when I was 16. This makes me kind of sad when I think about it.
