Confessions for Showing 1 - 10 of 57
think it's sad how people just accept that aging = decreptitude. In fact, many conditions are brought about by poor nutrition, high stress, lack of self care. Sure, we do lose some faculties and gravity does its share but we do not have to become feeble, drooling, peeing, demented creatures AUTOMATICALLY. I know some 80 somethings who are physically very active, still going to the gym and biking and eating a healthy diet.
I am a dietitian and I am soooooo tired of people not only asking me diet advice at get togethers but also presenting me with their own personal nutrition theories, feelings about Dr Oz, weight loss issues and wanting me to review their lab results. You know I DO have a life outside of work, right?
Gastric bypass in less than 2 weeks! I had my last nutrition appt. yesterday and have lost 5 lbs in the last month...now just a couple more appointments this week and it will be submitted to insurance for approval. Praying it all goes as planned. I feel so good about this!
Nutrition science is a very new field. I read a book that stated that, compared to medical science in general, nutrition science is at the equivalent point of bleeding patients for every aliment.
I've googled things about nutrition and wow, everything conflicts. It's very confusing. You can read and read and still come away confused. I have a masters' degree in economics, so I'm no slouch in the intellect department. I think nutrition science is very confusing to the lay person. And its about way more than oranges vs chips.
Oh come on now, you don't need to shell out shit tons of money on a nutritionist. Every single person knows that an all natural orange is better for you than a bag of orange doritos. Everyone knows that water is better than gatoraide. Everyone knows that a salad is a better choice than a fucking oreo. Its common sense! 3,500 calories = one pound. Either burn off 3,500 cals in one week or reduce your food intake by 3,500 calories and you will lose weight. Its NOT rocket science.
There is so much nutrition nonsense being spouted here it makes me sick. Do yourself a favor....go see a nutrition professional if you have questions. I'd recommend a Certified Diabetic Educator if you have diabetes or a masters level Registered Dietitian with credentials in the area you need help in (weight management, sports nutrition, etc) instead of relying on imbeciles on the interenet....who often want to sell snake oil.
In my state, if you are on state assistance and obese, gastric bypass is free. I know several people who have gotten it paid for. My friends and I who work? It's tough luck for us, our workplace sends us to a nutritionist and will provide two personal training sessions. Yeah, that's fair.
