I REALLY wish my family and co-workers would stop asking me about DH's deployment and talking to me about what's going on in Afghanistan right now. It's a sensitive subject for me, and you have no idea what you're talking about and I really don't feel like explaining it to you. Go ask a history professor and leave me alone.

Thank God for Skype. It often feels like my webcam makes my work, marriage, and family life possible. Today I'm grateful for the things it's easy to take for granted.

Seriously you can have a photographer take pictures of your family without your husband in uniform. 6 photo shoots since last summer and he's either in ACUs or Class As in all of them. He looks so uncomfortable.

Fuck the state of Il. I found out if Im willed the family farm, the state can still take it from me bc Gma will be placed in a nursing home and gpa's insurance and Medicaid will be payin for it. The only loophole around it is if I was put in the will for land and everything on it 7 years ago, then the state cant take it, except I was young, dumb, and in high school then. If the state gets it then it sells to a dumb developer who tears the out buildins & house & we lose our hertiage, and puts up butt fugly butched up houses. I love that farm, its my second home. I cant get a loan to buy it.

My DH was deployed when DD, our 1st child, was only 1 month old. He missed a lot of firsts & we both hated it. DH came home after a 11 month deployment 2 weeks ago and got to see a amazing first which was DD's first steps. DD had been getting close for the last few weeks but never actually took a step. The night he came home, our entire family was there. He put her on the floor & started to walk away when she yelled, very woobly stood up and took a few steps. It was amazing. The look on his face was priceless.

My family lives in the South, DH's in the Northwest. The closest we've been stationed to either side of our families is ten hours. We've been married almost eight years and no one from my family has met his family and no one from his family has met my family. Just seems odd to me but that's the military (especially when you don't have a wedding)

I made it a point to not even ask new wives I meet of their dhs ranks or jobs. I simply care to know them. Who they are is not define by being a mil wife or being in "so call army family"

His retirement package was rejected..Now we are looking at another deplyment this year. He likes his command but lost the passion for his job. He wants to start a new career and be with his family. I guess it is a blessing since the job market right now is in the shitter.

I'm the OP who said I may not be a service member but I'm in the Army family. We've been married almost 20 years and I can honestly say not once have I felt like his higher ups didn't care about me or were out to get me. And I didn't marry a jackass so I've never had an issue where I had to go to his COC to complain or whatever it is you're supposed to do. I had problems with the FRG once and I was actually able to talk to his COC and got that fixed. But yeah, if you want to think so negatively about the military go ahead, my experience has been great.

If any military wives look down military girlfriends simply because they're "just a girlfriend" they should remember, we were all "just a girlfriend" at one point. Some girlfriends stick around longer than some of the wives. Stick together, we're a family.
