Rules & FAQ

The basics

What is TruuConfessions?

TruuConfessions is your anonymous best friend. The network of sites (Single, Bride, Wife, Mom, Body, Office and Military Wives) allows you to share anything – good, bad, exciting, outrageous, heartfelt or hilarious – without judgment. You can also read confessions from other people and click “me too” if you’ve had a similar experience. We’ve found that the process of getting secrets off your chest is cathartic and that knowing there are others out there going through the same thing can be very reassuring.

Who created TruuConfessions?

TruuConfessions was started by Romi Lassally, a former Hollywood film producer and who was also the founding Lifestyles editor of The Huffington Post. You can read more about Romi and our Truu team here.

How was TruuConfessions created?

Our community began in the spring of 2007, when a less-than-perfect mothering moment led Romi  to create our flagship site, True Mom Confessions. By popular demand, later that year the sites expanded beyond moms to include other categories.  In March, 2009 we got a makeover  and relaunched  as TruuConfessions, the one-stop-shop for all your confessional needs. Read the whole story here, and learn more about the True Mom Confessions book based on our community.

Confessions, Comments & Rules

How do I confess?

Whether you're a registered user or not, it's easy to confess. Look for the big box labeled "Start Here" in the upper right corner of our home page, and pick the category your confession fits best, then click the "confess" button. This box is also available on each of our channel pages (Single, Bride, Wife, Mom, Body, Office and Military Wives). Be sure to decide whether you'd like to remain anonymous and also if you'd like to accept comments from the community, then check the appropriate boxes. Comments are generally supportive and encouraging, but obviously people don't always agree with the content of a particular post. We don't allow blatant disrespect and cruelty in the confessional, but due to the high volume of traffic to the site our moderators can't guarantee that things won't slip through the cracks. That's why we rely on you to flag confessions and comments that aren't suitable for publication, and to report disruptive behavior to talk@truuconfessions.com.

What are the rules/guidelines for confessing and commenting?

We try to approve every post, but please respect the confessional by refraining from the following:

  • Shameless profanity (Unless this is the only way to make your point)
  • Obvious lies (Lies have their place, just not here)
  • Confessions involving pedophilia or similarly illegal acts
  • Responding to a confession that did not allow comments
  • Confessions soliciting advice: Instead, ask that question on our Ning forum
  • Confessions that attack another member

Remember there is a difference between a confession and a slanderous judgment. Please refrain from the latter.

Specifically regarding comments:

We have to delete comments that include the following transgressions:

  • are abusive, vicious or condescending.
  • express the desire for negative things, such as death, to happen to another person
  • are really meant to be advertisements for other sites or businesses
  • detail harmful and/or illegal activities
  • are directed at Truu moderators or staff

How do I report inappropriate confessions or comments?

Within each confession and comment is a tab that allows you to flag it as abusive. Click this tab if you think a confession or comment should be unpublished, and our moderators will be alerted immediately. Moderators work on a regular schedule, but remember that it may take up to a few hours for a given post to be reviewed. Flagging a post does not guarantee that it will be removed permanently, which is a decision our moderators make at their discretion in accordance with our rules policy. If a post or community member is particularly egregious, please alert us by sending a message to talk@truuconfessions.com

How does the "follow your confession" feature work?

If you'd like to know when someone has added a "me too" or left a comment on your confession, you can be automatically notified through your Truu account. You must confess through your Truu account, rather than anonymously. Learn more about registering for an account here.

How do I comment on someone's confession?

In order to comment on confessions you must be a registered user. (Sign up here.) By accepting comments from only registered users, we are able to eliminate spam and prevent the publication of content that violates our rules policy.

Why aren't my comments appearing on the site?

If you can’t see your comments, it’s most likely that you have not yet verified your Truu account. When you registered, you should have received an email from us with a link to confirm the process. (This lets us know you’re not a spammer!) Try clicking that link now, and if you have problems send a message to talk@truuconfessions.com.

Your comments may also be unavailable because they have been flagged as abusive by three or more members of the community. If this is the case, the comment has been sent to our moderators to ensure that it does not violate our rules policy. Sometimes users flag items that are acceptable, and in these instances we will reinstate the posts. If your post is not reinstated and you would like to discuss it with our community manager, please send a message to talk@truuconfessions.com.

Can I lose my account?

Users who frequently violate our rules policy or show blatant disregard for the respectful atmosphere of the confessional may lose their accounts. We consider “frequent violations” to mean that a user is reported as disruptive three or more times, and “blatant disregard” to include posts that imply illegal activity, violence, intimidation or hate speech. This process is determined on a case by case basis by our community manager and editors.

If I lose my account, can I get it back?

Our community manager and editors are open to requests to reinstate accounts. The decision to reestablish privileges will be made by our Executive Editor on a case by case basis, and will depend on the egregiousness of the offenses in consideration. To submit a request to reinstate your account, submit it to talk@truuconfessions.com.
