I watched "Dear John" on Friday in a theater full of people who have no affiliation with the military lifestyle. (I'm over 50 miles from the nearest active base.) Seeing everyone look at this movie as pure entertainment, seeing them not be able to weed out the bullshit from the reality, seeing people watch/react to the movie who have *no idea* what it's really like...was hard. It made me kind of angry, and I wished I was in a base theater...
