Botox injections in the face smooth out wrinkles and help women achieve a younger look. Now, a surprising number of teenagers are turning to the cosmetic procedure in an attempt to keep wrinkles from ever appearing. The Food and Drug Administration has approved Botox for cosmetic uses for those 18 years and older. But younger teens are lying about their age and attending Botox parties to get the injections.
In the UK, one teenager started getting Botox injections at the age of 15, with her mother's consent. Her mother says "I was thrilled Hannah was open and honest with me about having Botox. I'd much rather know about it than have her do it behind my back. I talked her through the procedure and feel I did the responsible thing."
Doctors say teens often buy into the myth that starting Botox young will completely prevent wrinkles and that there is no need for teenagers to have Botox treatments. They also fear teens could get contaminated product from buying over the internet and that administered incorrectly it can lead to paralysis of the face and double vision.
