It’s a new year, which means that it’s time for a new resolution. My resolutions include the old standards (lose weight, self improvement stuff), and to do more educational activities with my two year old.
I was a preschool teacher before I had my daughter. Our playroom is set up in learning centers, everything in our house is labeled, and I’ve invested in an obscene amount of educational material. I know how to balance learning and play. The minute it starts to feel like work we stop. She’s two, there’s no reason learning can’t be fun.
I started out so well. We learned baby signs, and I’d read to her a few times a day, we’d look at contrasting colors, and I’d put whatever educational toy existed in the 0-3 month category in front of her. Then I realized that babies don’t really do much, so I slowly started doing less and less. At each milestone I’ve started again. We buy all the educational books, and toys, and videos, but at some point I start getting too busy. Now she’s exactly the age where she can not only benefit from this type of play, but she reacts to whatever I’m doing. No more excuses. No getting too busy.
How about you? What are your New Year’s Resolutions?

I know you've seen the video of laptop dad. So what's your opinion?

Is declawing really the biggest issue in animal abuse that we need to address?
